A late goal from Reigan Heskey secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory at the Joie Stadium as City not only secured the most prestigious prize in youth football but also the Manchester bragging rights.
The triumph came on top of City lifting the Under-18 Premier League North crown earlier this month – and there could be more silverware in store with Reiss’s squad still to face Chelsea in the Under-18 national final next Friday.
Tonight’s victory marked the club’s fifth FA Youth Cup success overall and for Reiss it was an achievement to both savour and cherish.
“I’m feeling top, happy and proud. It’s unbelievable really,” said the German.
“The way we won such a special final – I am very proud.
“It was two top teams facing each other and maybe there were a few nerves in the first half which is understandable.
“I think we were able to increase our intensity and energy in the second half – as we have done a lot this season - and that was key.
“To win at home at the Joie Stadium in front of our supporters was special.
“Now we want to celebrate for a couple of days before we prepare for next week’s big game at Chelsea.”
