Under-18s Lead Coach Oliver Reiss was impressed by a handful of components in his sides performance that saw City beat Brighton 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

A Divine Mukasa brace in the opening 45 minutes cancelled out Brighton’s early goal before strikes from Matty Warhurst and Luca Fletcher topped off an impressive comeback at the City Football Academy.

It’s our fourth successive win in all competitions and another outing Reiss has seen continued improvement in.

“I think it was, from the beginning, a very tough game,” began Reiss.

“We knew Brighton were a tough opponent but we did well from the first second, from the first minute. Our intensity against the ball was good.

“We did it very well, form the beginning one of the things as to why we were so good.

Also us in possession was good. In the last games the results were also good but our game in possession was not really.

“But it was better today so I’m very happy about it.

“Our possession was a little bit higher and we had a little bit more control of the game for most of it.”

The win means City are still in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages of the Under-18 Premier League Cup.

Following a 2-2 draw with Norwich in our first Group A encounter, Reiss was pleased to see a more positive outcome against a Brighton side who are undefeated in the Under-18 Premier League South.

“It was an important win so we were a little bit under pressure,” admitted the Lead Coach.

“After the draw [against Norwich] and then the second game against such a good team [Brighton] we were a little bit under pressure. But it was good for us, for the players to perform under pressure.

“We showed against a special opponent whether we can perform and we did that.”
