City Under-18s Lead Coach Oliver Reiss was extremely pleased to see exciting talent showcased by a large cohort of his players during our 6-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

The convincing triumph at the City Football Academy was our second successive Under-18 Premier League North win after a 4-0 win at Everton before the international break.

It seems pieces have fallen into place for our Academy youngsters after two difficult opening game weeks which saw City draw 0-0 with Leeds and fall to a 2-0 loss to Manchester United.

And the two wins are performances Reiss is clearly proud of.

MATCH REPORT | CITY 6-0 NOTTINGHAM FOREST

“We scored very early, one, two, three goals,” began Reiss when asked for his assessment of the match.

“I think this was a match in which you could see how many brilliant players, huge talents, and I think we could see this today.

“I am very happy because I think I said it after Everton and the 4-0 win that it would be nice to have all the players here after the game and maybe the international break wasn’t in the right moment for us so I’m very happy about coming back and to give a performance like this today.

“But now we have another break. We have our off weekend but I feel like it won’t be a big issue for us [in continuing momentum].”

A new aspect to City’s Under-18s today was also the new addition of former Blue Kolo Toure to the coaching staff.

Toure began the 2023/24 campaign with the Under-16s but has now stepped up to assist Reiss for the rest of the season.

And Reiss expressed his delight at what it has been like working with the former pro even in just a short space of time.

“We’ve been together I think for the third day today and you can see and hear his energy,” said Reiss with a smile on his face.

“He [Toure] brings it in the match, in training and it’s a big honour for me on the one side and also a huge benefit for all of us.

“I’m very happy to work together with him.”
