City fall to UEFA Youth League defeat against PSG

In what proved to be a tightly contested affair at the Joie Stadium, despite City’s efforts to create chances, the visitors secured the points thanks to a first half attempt and a late second goal.

It was a tough afternoon for the Blues who carved out an abundance of opportunities as Kaden Braithwaite, Teddie Lamb and Ryan McAidoo all went close.

But with four games still to play in the League Phase, and AEK Athens up next, Reiss explained how his side will use our defeat as motivation going into our latest fixture.

“When we can take this atmosphere, this aggressivity, intensity, everything, all the key behaviours we were talking about before the game as well and especially half-time, how can we take this into the game and into the next game,” he said.

“When we are able to do this and then maybe here and there in terms of the decision making or of course all together creating better chances, easier chances, then I’m quite comfortable to play this game and I’m looking forward to it.”

He also touched on how important these games are for the players in terms of development and how they can challenge themselves to improve personally. 

“It’s special. What they have to learn is when I have this one action, when I have this one chance the feeling should be this is the chance of my life, this is the chance to score, this is the chance to win the game,” he added. 

“It isn’t because there are more opportunities, but the feeling and the mindset is like this is the moment.”

“These are maybe the five percent at the end to win games and you get punished more in this competition more than you do in other competitions and this is why these different competitions we’re playing are so important for their development.”
