Oscar Bobb was disappointed as City exited the UEFA Youth League following a 2-1 defeat away at Hajduk Split but he was very positive about the future.

Bobb stressed that the team will be back even stronger from the loss in the Round of 16 encounter.

One of the obvious ways they can come again is in PL2, where they sit top of the table in search of a third league title in succession – a record!

He’s determined to make that happen – and confident it will.

Their next assignment comes on Friday at West Ham, kick-off 19:00, with the game shown live on CITY+ and Recast.

He said: “I am sure we will be back even stronger.

“This will be a good learning lesson for all the players, for sure. I am sure Manchester City will be back in the Youth League.

“We do feel as a team we could have gone even further.

“We have had good games. I feel we have been the better team in most if not all. And it’s something to build on for sure.”

In the match itself, we were in the ascendancy for much of the 90 minutes although our start put us on the back foot early on.

Two first-half strikes from Roko Brajkovic and Mate Antunovic in the 24th and 33rd minute respectively gave us mountain to climb.

Bobb himself helped start the ascent when he reduced the arrears on the stroke of half time but we couldn’t find the necessary goal to send the tie to penalties in the second half.

On the game, he added: “We haven’t spoken a lot. It’s very upsetting going out. It’s not a great mood with the guys.

“I think we did have the chances to score. In a game like this, I felt we were the better team.

“It was a great atmosphere. We need to be prepared for that, put away our chances and not let them into the game which we unfortunately did.

“I think we all, myself included, lacked that final pass. I thought we were a bit sloppy.

“But we just have to think about the league now, which we are still on top off so yes we keep going.”
