Ben Wilkinson believes City U19s’ 4-0 win over a previously unbeaten Real Madrid U19s is evidence that his team are capable of beating anyone.

The young Blues have progressed to the UEFA Youth League Round of 32 after finishing 10th in the league phase.

But the manner of the victory in the Spanish capital is what impressed the EDS coach the most.

“The scoreline is top - 4-0 away to Real Madrid is amazing, but I was impressed more with the manner of the performance, especially without the ball,” said Wilkinson.

“We’ve done a lot of work over the past few months in regard to what we want to look like without the ball and slowly it’s been getting better, but today I thought the aggression we showed high up the pitch forced errors in their final third - that was something we really went after.

“Over the course of the season, we haven’t been as clinical as we should have been because we have the quality and players who can be devastating in those moments, so the finishing today was really pleasing

“That’s the way these games can go once you get your noses in front, they get more desperate and the gaps become bigger.

“It was sone of those days when all the big moments went our way and we feel on our day and at our best, we can beat anyone.”
