Reigan Heskey said that losing the 2024/25 FA Youth Cup final to Aston Villa gave Oliver Reiss' side an extra purpose against United.

The 18-year-old scored the winning goal to crown us FA Youth Cup winners after a 2-1 victory over Manchester United at the Joie Stadium.

Floyd Samba unleashed a superb free kick 25 yards out on the 40th minute before United hit back to level almost immediately via a Godwill Kukonki header.

And just when it looked as if we would tip into extra time the young Blue conjured up exactly what City needed to claim our fifth FA Youth Cup trophy.

MATCH REPORT | CITY 2-1 United

Heskey produced a moment of individual magic on 87 minutes, brilliantly firing home from close range with a finish City fans are all too familiar with from the England youth international.

And the winger explained how losing 3-1 to Aston Villa in 2024/25 put extra fire in our belly to beat Manchester United on home soil.

“After missing out last season on it, we just wanted to get the win today and I’m very happy,” Reigan said.

“Feeling that heartbreak last year, we didn’t want to feel that again this year, so we had a lot of drive for this game and especially it being a derby as well.”

Heskey went on to explain what went through his head in the moments leading up to scoring the winning goal that sealed us the trophy.

“It’s just instinct,” he added.

“Once I was in that position I knew what I wanted to do so I just had to execute it and thankfully I did.”
