Rico Lewis says Manchester City’s Under-17 Premier League Cup victory has provided a timely boost ahead of a pivotal final few weeks of the league season.

City recorded a stunning 6-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur to lift the trophy at Loughborough University, with a group of players who sit top of the Under-18 Premier League North Division with six games remaining.

Ben Wilkinson’s side are nine points clear of second placed Liverpool, who have a game in hand and Lewis, who captained the side against Spurs, believes the confidence gained from the one-sided victory can only help in the Academy outfit’s pursuit of a league and cup double.

“[It’s] amazing,” he told mancity.com.

“[It’s] most important for our confidence for the rest of the season. Taking it in for the next six weeks of the league, it is going to help us tremendously. It’s special.

“I think the scoreline represents what happened in the game. I think we dominated and everything we did in training came out.

“It worked and it ended up 6-0, which is a massive scoreline, especially for a final. It shows how we’ve been working hard this whole time and it’s paid off.”
