City Academy player Ryan McAidoo says the team only focused on our game plan and that's what helped us overcome Chelsea on Monday evening.

Oliver Reiss’ Under-18s side beat the London outfit 4-1 at Kingsmeadow to see us secure our place in the quarter-finals of the prestigious competition.

McAidoo scored City’s fourth and final goal of the evening after strikes from Floyd Samba, Dante Headley and Xavier Parker put us in the driving seat.

But the Under-18 Premier League South team tested City relentlessly.

And McAidoo pointed to him and his team-mates sticking to the plan set out by Reiss and his staff that saw us overcome one of the best Academy sides in the country.

“I wasn’t really trying to focus on the opposition,” said McAidoo when asked what it was like facing his former club.

“We just tried to focus on our game and that was it to be fair.

“Which we came out here and did our thing.

“The FA Youth Cup is one of the greatest competitions at our age.

“It’s a good thing to get to play in and obviously get a big score line. Just happy we are through.”
