Ryan McAidoo says his second half hat-trick was achievable because of the hard work by the Under-19s team as a whole.

McAidoo needed just 19 minutes on the pitch to score his first-ever hat-trick for City and in the UEFA Youth League.

His trio of goals helped Ben Wilkinson’s side run out as convincing winners with a 6-1 triumph over Feyenoord on Tuesday afternoon.

Reigan Heskey began the scoring, followed by Farid Alfa-Ruprecht. Kelvin Neijenhuis’s penalty early in the second half saw City fight hard to maintain our lead.

A second for Heskey and McAidoo’s hat-trick inside the final 20 minutes of the match mean City are one step closer to qualifying for the knockout stage of the prestigious European competition.

And the 16-year-old was full of praise for his team-mates following the full-time whistle.

“I think our work rate always reaps rewards,” began McAidoo.

“Just him [Justin Oboavwoduo] pressing got me the reward and the reward for the team so if we can keep up that work rate it could be good for the future and maybe even winning the tournament.

“At first I was a bit hesitant [to claim the penalty kick] because Reigan [Heskey] and Justin [Oboavwoduo] are normally on penalties.

“But Reigan was nice enough to give me the penalty so I’m really grateful to him.”
