After last season’s 4-0 triumph over Leeds United in the final at the Etihad, an FA Youth Cup trophy lift in the current campaign would make this season’s cohort the first squad to retain the title in the Club’s history.
McAidoo is just 16 years old, but he’s been a shining star in Oliver Reiss’s side, including in our three FA Youth Cup games this season where he’s scored two goals and assisted another.
On Thursday evening, when City travel to the Hawthorns to take on West Bromwich Albion in our quarter-final clash, a win over the West Midlands outfit would move our Under-18s one step closer to an important moment in their careers to date.
And McAidoo is grateful for the trust he has received from Reiss and is excited by the prospect of winning his first trophy with the Club.
“I think it’s a big thing because growing up you want to be as reliable as possible in like big situations and getting older you need to be able to perform,” explained McAidoo when asked what it means to him to be trusted in some of our biggest games this season.
“I think I’m doing that really well so far so I just want to keep going and hopefully we can go out and win the whole competition as well.
“I think for us to go so far [already] makes us remember how they [last season’s team] went on and got to the final and won it last year so maybe if we can do that too, we can get our places in history.
“It would be another good statement for us as a team and the Club and even in the whole country as well.”
