City legend Shaun Goater says he’s looking forward to watching our Under-18s’ huge FA Youth Cup semi-final clash with Arsenal.

Ben Wilkinson’s side travel to north London on Tuesday, 4 April – with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 (UK) – with a place in the final up for grabs.

We reached the last four of the competition thanks to strong victories over Blackburn Rovers, Brighton, Fleetwood Town and Oxford United – scoring 15 goals and conceding just once so far.

And Goater, who has often co-commentated on our youngster’s FA Youth Cup games this season when live on CITY+ and Recast, has been impressed by our head coach’s style of management.

What’s more, the former striker is eagerly anticipating the tie in the capital this evening.

“What’s impressed me is Ben has a trust in the players because at times, even if there are errors being made, he’s not barking, he’s calm and relaxed and he knows the levels they can get to,” he said.

“Just through having time the players go and perform, play and ask questions. I was really enjoying watching them because even though I’d see them in passing I didn’t get to see them too often.

“I think there are a lot of things to be excited with what Ben’s doing.

“The more and more I’ve seen his team, the more I’ve started to enjoy, and you can see the true identity of how City play.

“They control the ball, control the game and they have some really exciting players, so I’m excited about this evening’s game as well.”
