Manchester City ran out 2-0 winners in their FA Cup quarter-final against Middlesbrough yesterday, setting up a semi-final date at Wembley next month.

The quality of City’s two goals reflected their attacking play. Their opener came after Yaya Toure’s wonderful pass set Pablo Zabaleta free down the right, with his cross finding David Silva who hammered home past the impressive Brad Guzan.

And Sergio Aguero extended City’s lead in the second half with a brilliant close-range finish from Leroy Sane’s cross.

City were much the better side for the majority of the game and could have added further goals but for the excellence of Guzan in the Boro goal.

Afterwards, manager Pep Guardiola said: We were outstanding from the beginning. We have now played three teams from the Premier League and one from the Championship.

“We played a good performance and were there from the first minute. We have missed a lot of chances throughout the season and the game should have been over 30 minutes before. We need to improve that, but I am happy and we can play Monaco.”
