In Manchester, an inspirational group of Young Leaders are working hard to promote female empowerment through the City Girls project.
For many, Manchester is the home of football and thousands of young people take part in the sport in the city every week.
However, many young girls once they reach their teenage years drop out of the game at twice the rate of boys.
Now, 18-year-old Chiara and a new generation of inspirational female young leaders in Manchester are seeking to tackle this by providing free weekly football sessions for 350 girls across the city.
These sessions will not only help the participants to develop their skills but also to build their confidence in a safe and inclusive environment.
For Chiara, it is about provide the young girls with a goal to strive towards.
“It means a lot to me to be a young leader. Football has really helped me, so I would like to help other girls be the best that they can be,” she said.
“Some people from Cityzens Giving came into our College to talk about how they can keep girls involved in football for longer. I thought it sounded interesting and started volunteering at sessions.
“The Cityzens Giving project empowers girls through sport and gives them an opportunity to have fun which is what football should be all about.”
This project is delivered by Manchester City’s Foundation, City in the Community, and generously supported by SAP.
