A stylish victory might be Jason Wilcox’s aim for Manchester City U18s ahead of the FA Youth Cup final, but our Academy Director insists success at this level will not define the season.

A stylish victory might be Jason Wilcox’s aim for Manchester City U18s ahead of the FA Youth Cup final, but our Academy Director insists success at this level will not define the season.

Gareth Taylor’s side welcome Liverpool to the Academy Stadium for England’s showpiece U18 game, with Wilcox hoping the youngsters can turn in a performance which exemplifies the club’s philosophy.

However, he is keen to look at the competition in the broader context of the Academy’s overarching aim around player development.

“Winning is not everything,” he explained.

“We set out to win everything, but we want to develop players and challenge them and ultimately the winning comes after.

“As much as we’re saying the FA Youth Cup doesn’t define our season as an Academy, when we’ve got a final at home, we want to make sure we win and win with style.

“Liverpool will be thinking the same, so what a fantastic way to finish off the season.”
