It was a campaign in which he really came to the fore and so often he was the focal point of the Premier League’s best team.
Twenty-five goals and 18 assists are evidence of that, but only tell half the story of an exceptional campaign in which City’s No.7 provided countless moments of inspiration.
There was the opening day goal against Arsenal, a late winner against Schalke and a hat-trick against Watford, as Sterling went about his game with ruthlessness and maturity in equal measure.
He was equally as inspiring off the pitch, speaking out against racism and he was deservedly awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year awards.
