Vincent Kompany turned in a true captain’s display as Manchester City beat Arsenal to life the Carabao Cup final.

The Belgian defender was a colossus at the back for the Blues and scored the second goal as he was voted man of the match at Wembley.

Kompany profited from a well worked corner routine to turn home Ilkay Gundogan’s drilled pass, which sparked wild celebrations from himself and the City fans, while at the other end he showed his class to effortlessly recover and take the ball off Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s feet as the Arsenal forward bore down on goal.

Injuries have hampered the skipper’s career of late, but this was a timely reminder of his qualities both as a defender and a leader.
