Manchester City’s win over West Brom on Tuesday belonged to Pablo Zabaleta, who played his last home game as a Blues player.
But Kevin De Bruyne’s performance also took the headlines. The Belgian was superb throughout, scoring one, assisting another and completing 52 passes as City won 3-1.
The result means City now need one point from their last game away at Watford to ensure Champions League football next season – and if they win the game, they are guaranteed to finish third, thus avoiding a playoff scenario to qualify for Europe’s elite competition.
Afterwards, manager Pep Guardiola said: “It was a good night and it’s in our hands to finish third. We go to London to win the game.
“I would not say it’s done, fourth, but Arsenal have to win five or 6-0 to qualify fourth, but we are there. We will travel and try to put in a good performance and win.”
