Mario Balotelli etched his name into Manchester derby folklore with the first goal in City’s 6-1 demolition of United in 2011.

It was as much for the celebration as it was the strike, but there was no shortage of skill involved as the Italian got the ball rolling on a near-perfect afternoon at Old Trafford.

The Italian barely even broke stride as he stroked James Milner’s cut back into the bottom right corner to give City a 22 minute lead, before infamously revealing his ‘Why Always Me?’ t-shirt.

Balotelli struck again on the hour mark, with Sergio Aguero, David Silva and an Edin Dzeko brace completing a memorable derby day victory for the blue half of Manchester.

That first effort is our Goal of the Day on the eve of the latest instalment of the cross-city clash and you can watch it again in the video above.
