Trevor Sinclair’s 50th Premier League goal sent Manchester City top of the Premier League back in August 2005.

Andy Cole teed up the midfielder after good work from Kiki Musampa and Sinclair made sure he reached a half century of strikes in fine fashion, as he curled a low effort beyond Kelvin Davies in the Black Cats’ goal.

Sinclair’s strike gave City a two goal cushion against their North East opponents, who pulled one back through Anthony Le Tallec, but Stuart Pearce’s side held on for a 2-1 win, which sent them to the summit of English football for the first time since 2003.

City XI: James;, Mills, Dunne, Jordan (Onuoha 75), Thatcher; Sinclair, Barton, Reyna, Musampa (Jihai 80); Cole, Vassell.
