Manchester City’s UEFA Youth League boss Simon Davies was delighted with his side’s play but insisted they must be more clinical if they are to go all the way.

City reached the play-off stages of the UEFA Youth League after a 2-1 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach at Borussia Park.

Goals from Paolo Fernandes and Brahim Diaz ensured City will finish in second place in Group C, behind Barcelona.

After an early period of control, Diaz picked the ball up in the centre of midfield, drove past a couple of defenders and pulled back for Fernandes to fire home right-footed in a strike reminiscent of last month’s winner against Liverpool.

The two Spaniards in City’s midfield continued to dominate proceedings, as both forced Gladbach goalkeeper Langhoff into fully extended saves before the half hour mark.

Gladbach grew into the match from that point and snatched an equaliser in the 33rd minute as the Blues defenders failed to clear a drilled cross and centre forward Jahn shot past Grimshaw.
