City defender John Stones admits old friendships will be forgotten when he steps onto the pitch against Everton on Saturday.

The centre-back, who was on fine form for England in the latest international break, faces his former team at the Etihad Stadium when the Premier League returns this weekend.

He told CityTV: “It’s been a good 10 days away, two clean sheets for me personally, hopefully I can carry that form into playing on Saturday.”

He added: “It’s going to be interesting. It will be good to see some old faces, I have a lot of friends there. It should be a good game but when the whistle goes it all goes out the window, they’re trying to beat us we are trying to beat them.”
