Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said hard work was the secret behind the Blues’ impressive start to the new Premier League season.

City showed both patience and panache as they overcame stiff resistance from newly promoted Brighton to secure a deserved 2-0 victory at the Amex Stadium.

Goals from Sergio Aguero and a Lewis Dunk own goal were enough to earn City a precious three points to bring back to Manchester.

And as he reflected on what was a thoroughly professional performance, Guardiola hailed the work-rate put in by his players on the South coast.

“We ran like a League One or a Conference side – you don’t see any players on my team who don’t run and that is what I am most proud of,” said the City boss.
