Eliaquim Mangala says City should be proud of our Premier League record-breaking achievement.

our Premier League record-breaking achievement.

The Blues smashed a record previously set by Arsenal by romping to a 15th consecutive triumph in the competition with a comprehensive 4-0 victory at Swansea.

The result meant Pep Guardiola’s men bettered the 14 successive wins the Gunners managed between February and August 2002, whilst also setting a new record for the best-ever start to an English top-flight campaign.

Mangala, whose game minutes have increased whilst deputising for the injured Vincent Kompany, told CityTV his teammates will enjoy their accomplishment – and deservedly so.

“That’s history,” he stated. “We’re the only team to do that and it’s a big achievement.

“There’s a long way to go but we have to be proud. It’s not easy to do that.

“We’re very happy.”

City’s produced a superb performance at the Liberty Stadium to maintain our 11-point lead atop the league table.

Mangala urged focus as the Blues look to mount serious challenges in all four competitions.

“We try to play well every day in training and in every game – home or away, in the Champions League, the Premier League, the cups… We try to play the same way.

“The way we play, everybody has to be involved. We know what we have to do.

“For me, it’s the most important thing to win the game but when I play, I try to help the team. I’m very happy to have played some minutes and help my teammates. I know we can do something special this season.

“We have the same objective: to win the game.

“At the moment, we are going well. We need to carry on in the same way and keep working.

“Now, we rest as we have another game on Saturday where we will try to do the same.”

Mangala also hailed the displays of two-goal hero David Silva, deeming the Spaniard proof that footballers are never too old to learn new tricks.

“Our midfielders try to be in the box when we cross the ball,” he continued. “They need to be there to score the goal.

“David has improved a lot and he showed to everybody: because you’re 31 years old does not mean you can’t improve.

“He’s enjoying his game and it’s very good for the team.”

Asked how he feels regarding the prospect of facing Tottenham star Harry Kane on Saturday, Mangala replied: “He’s a very good striker but Tottenham is not just about Harry Kane.

“They have some qualities. We have to be focused on all of the team and prepare for the game to win.

“Tottenham are a very good team with young players. We will have to prepare as well as possible.”
