City skipper Vincent Kompany has explained just why the Manchester derby means so much to him and the team.

The 31-year-old has been involved in cross-city skirmishes for almost a decade now so knows better than most the fixture’s intensity and significance.

Ahead of Sunday’s Old Trafford showdown he said: “Not just to me but to every player it means more than any other game.

“I’m very honest about it. I do think in football people like to downplay the derbies, say it’s just another game, just another three points, but in reality it’s so much more than that.”
