Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he will stick to his principles as he looks to make the Blues a major European force.

The Catalan, who won 21 major trophies in seven seasons as a manager before arriving at City, believes he can only achieve success if he coaches his players in the same style he has advocated throughout his career.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s game with Leicester, Guardiola said:

“The team is going to play the way I want to play. There is no doubt about that.

“I want high pressing, I want to improve our control of second balls, I want to make a good build up, play as quick as possible – but in the end it depends on the quality of the players.

“We are going to try to adapt the philosophy of the Club.

“How can I convince my players to play a way I don’t believe.”
