Pep Guardiola has stated that players’ records against certain clubs don’t play a factor in who will be selected for the squad.
City take on Newcastle on Saturday 1 September, kick-off at 5.30pm (BST), and one player in particular has a sterling record against the Magpies.
In the 11 Premier League games Sergio Aguero has played against Newcastle, our striker has scored a staggering 14 goals, including a hat-trick in our most recent encounter.
However, Pep has stated that he will only judge Aguero on how he has been training over the past week.
“No, definitely not,” Pep replied when asked whether records mattered for squad selection. “He has made incredible records but if he is training bad, if his mood is not in the right position and not positive, why should one player play?
“In football, what we have done, good and bad things, is always in the past. We have to do what’s happened today for tomorrow, for the best starting XI. The people who don’t play sometimes deserve to play. So no, normally no.”
