Bernardo Silva says he and his Manchester City colleagues must learn the lessons from our Boxing Day loss to Leicester and look to immediately bounce back in the race for the Premier League title.

A second successive league loss over the festive period has left the Blues trailing leaders Liverpool by seven points with a resurgent Spurs, who leapfrogged us into second place, also challenging.

Given the disappointment and frustration, Bernardo – who gave City an early first half lead at the King Power Stadium only for the Foxes to hit back and claim a 2-1 victory – called on City to provide an immediate response at Southampton on Sunday.

“To lose two games in a row – especially at this important part of the season, is never good,” said Bernardo.

“Now we need to check what we’ve been doing wrong, try to improve those areas and start winning games as quickly as possible.

“Seven points to Liverpool is starting to be a lot, we are not in a good moment, but tomorrow is another day. We have to find an explanation and we need a good reaction from all the lads at Southampton.”
