Pep Guardiola is aiming to take a first leg advantage when his Manchester City side face FC Basel on Tuesday evening, but does not feel his side must put the tie beyond doubt in Switzerland.

The manager believes the two-legged format is an important component of European football.

So, while he says his side will prepare to win this game like any other, they should not forget the impact of playing at home in the second leg.

“We’ll try to do the same,” he explained

“The way we prepare is the same as we do for the Premier League and the FA Cup.

“We try to analyse the opponent’s strengths and what we can do to punish them and think about it, we have another game.

“That is the most important thing, to do what we have to do and show the way we want to play but always think we have the Etihad Stadium in three weeks.

“We cannot forget that situation in these kinds of games.”
