Pep Guardiola heaped praise on Kevin De Bruyne during his recent pre-Leicester press conference, but the boss revealed that he was keen to give the Belgian a rest.
The manager’s comments came after he was questioned on whether he was concerned that KDB faced the risk of burning out with the busy fixture list.
“I couldn’t give him rest because David Silva had some personal problems,” Guardiola explained. “But now David is injured, Fabian Delph is injured, Phil Foden is injured, so that’s why I couldn’t move him a lot.
“That’s why he had to play but if we can give him minutes rest then we do, for example, against West Brom he came off for 15 minutes to let another player come on.
“He plays a lot of minutes and he deserves some rest.
“He is such an important player for us as every game he creates a lot of chances for us, he helps us defensively and of course the fact that we are there fighting for important things - in that situation you are not tired - Kevin said he was tired but after three days he would be ready to play another.”
