Pep Guardiola is determined to make sure his high-flying Manchester City side are not victims of the so called, ‘magic of the cup’ against Wigan Athletic.

The Catalan takes his team to the DW Stadium on Monday evening for an FA Cup fifth round tie, knowing it’s a competition which, year on year, throws up surprise results.

Guardiola, therefore, is delighted to have seen a host of first team players recover from injury in time for the game against the promotion-chasing League One outfit, who he will not be taking lightly.

“Of course, I am concerned,” he told journalists at Friday’s pre-match press conference.

“I saw the game against Bournemouth – one of the teams I like to watch in the Premier League – and they were able to beat them.

“I think in the FA Cup, there are a lot of surprises. Not this season, not the previous season, but through all history this kind of situation happens.

“We have a chance to go to the quarter-final and I’m going to prepare as good as possible.”
