In a light-hearted question about Guardiola’s potential playing career at Wigan, the manager had this to say.
“Yes Wigan tried to sign me years ago but I wasn’t good enough… That is the truth. I was old… Really old. They were so clever in not signing me, I was not good enough.
Pep went on to speak about the goal-keeper outlook for Monday evening and the battle between Ederson and Bravo for who will play in domestic cup matches.
“Claudio is going to play, we are also in the Carabao Cup final thanks to him. It all depends on his performance and his quality but in these competitions, it will be Claudio.
“Claudio has reacted perfect. When players don’t play regularly it is not easy, I understand but he is perfect and when he plays good he’s in and always he has to be ready and he always is.”
With Kompany, Laporte, Otamendi and Stones all fully fit, Pep was questioned on what it’s like to have the luxury of four available central defenders.
“All four of our central defenders have top qualities. Two are so young and in the next five, six, seven years they’ll keep improving. So far we’ve been playing a lot so we need them.”
With March quickly approaching and a cup final to play next Sunday, it is clear the Pep Guardiola has been impressed with the way the season has gone so far.
“I didn’t think at the start of the season that things could have gone as well as they have.
“But most of our games we have played well and now every game is either a knockout or a final.
“And In the league we have Arsenal and Chelsea and we now have a chance to try and achieve a dream. But we are still in February.“
