Pep Guardiola says the quartet of Manchester City players who’ve recently extended their contracts could not be more deserving of their new deals.

The boss is delighted to see Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne, Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva, all of whom he describes as pivotal members of his squad, commit their future to the Club.

“[It’s] so important,” he said.

“All of them deserve to extend their contract. We are so, so happy they can stay longer here with us at Manchester City.

“I am so happy here like last season. They are the artists. The players are important. It’s so good - the best news of the weeks.”

Guardiola also revealed he has no fresh injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s trip to Cardiff City, with the knock Kyle Walker suffered in the closing stages of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie not serious enough to rule him out for Sunday.
