Pep Guardiola has called for his players to focus on what they may achieve come the end of the season.

The Blues need 11 wins to mathematically secure the Premier League title and the Catalan believes his squad would be best served keeping that in mind rather than dwelling on their red-hot form in the opening 24 games of the campaign.

“The best way is to maintain forward,” Pep told journalists after the 3-1 win over Newcastle.

“I said to them we were the best team so far, but that doesn’t count. It counts after fixture 38.

“We have 14 games left and to win 10 or 11 games will be tough.

“I said don’t look back. Don’t look at our contenders behind. Look at what we have to achieve.

“If you try to look at what happened behind, that is not a good solution in my experience.”
