Nick Cushing urged his City team to use the disappointment of the Blues’ 2-2 league draw with Bristol as motivation for the Champions League.

A late Nikita Parris penalty and Steph Houghton wonderstrike salvaged a valuable point against the Vixens but the home side lost ground on top two Arsenal and Birmingham.

Looking ahead to the midweek visit of Atletico Madrid to the Academy Stadium, Cushing encouraged his side to forget the result and focus on European progression.

“We can’t let it affect our confidence,” he told ManCity.com. “We have to make sure we are hungry and motivated to get to the next round of the Champions League.

“It’s a difficult game but we’re by far capable or getting past Atletico Madrid. We have to make sure we are fresh and that we impose ourselves on the game.”

Cushing also reflected on captain Houghton’s sensational curling effort, hailing his defender’s character after a difficult week on a personal level.
