The Blues travelled to Spain to take on the Primera Division Champions, and the tie ended level after Kenti Robles’ last-minute strike cancelled out Gemma Bonner’s early header.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Cushing was pleased with his side’s defensive display.

“We knew it was going be a tough game and crowd would create good atmosphere – to take advantage home we are pleased with that,” Nick explained. “When you play good teams them games go right up to 93 or 94 mins and goal can come at any minute.

“We can be better, we can play better and we can control the game better.

“I don’t think we got a foothold in the game enough, and I think our decision making can be a lot better in those moments when we are under pressure.

“We had to expect that when we are playing the champions of Spain.

“I thought defensively we were excellent in those moments tonight, and we probably showed a different side to ourselves that we don’t show in England.”
