Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is hoping Kevin De Bruyne can carry on from where he left off against Cardiff in midweek.

The Belgian midfielder has had to be patient this season after suffering a number of injuries.

But the midfielder has returned to action with a vengeance with his displays against Fulham and Cardiff during the past week, opening the scoring in our 2-0 league win against Bluebirds on Wednesday

And, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Brighton at Wembley, the boss said he was looking for De Bruyne to carry on in a similar vein

“Imagine Benjamin Mendy for example… it’s tough,” said the City boss when asked how frustrating the lay-offs had been.

“The players want to play, it’s really tough but, hopefully, he (De Bruyne) can maintain until the end of the season the level he had at Fulham and the last game against Cardiff.”

The City boss also added that he would be selecting the ‘best side possible’ but added that he wouldn’t take any injury risks, with striker Sergio Aguero’s fitness set be monitored tomorrow.

“Sergio is going to play when he’s really fit - the doctors are going to tell me,” Guardiola added.

“If I’m told after injury, he could be three-four weeks out, he is not going to play. We are going to play with the best side possible.”
