Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on midfielder Bernardo Silva ahead of the Blues’ trip to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League this weekend.

Silva was recently voted as March’s Etihad Player of the Month, chipping in with three goals and three assists in five matches, but it was the Portuguese playmaker’s defensive work which was highlighted by the manager.

Guardiola said: “Playing wide he is a fighter and he is so intelligent and clever defensively.

“He reads the game so well and… in the middle he is in spaces, he can track 2 or 3 players.”

He revealed: “They have done so well, 11 points up from the relegation zone, they have had incredible results.”
