Pep Guardiola admitted he was delighted to see another record tumble when Leroy Sane scored Manchester City’s 157th goal of the campaign against Manchester United.
It was a strike which set a new top-flight English record - no side has ever scored more goals in a single season - with Sane’s strike allowing Guardiola‘s side to eclipse the previous record set by Manuel Pellegrini’s squad in 2013-14.
And Guardiola says it’s further evidence of City’s attacking quality and respect for beautiful football.
“I love to score a lot of goals,” he told journalists before Sunday’s trip to Burnley.
“I want to attack every game and respect this amazing game.
“I am so proud. Everyone has been involved. Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus score a lot, the wingers score a lot.
“We don’t score a lot of set pieces because we are a small team, but I am very pleased. The top two (scoring teams) is Manchester City.
“Manuel Pellegrini’s team is the other one. I like that. It makes our game attractive.”
Speaking in Friday’s pre-match press conference, the boss also provided a fitness update ahead of the trip to Turf Moor.
