Nick Cushing hailed City’s desire and resilience after his side wrapped up our Women’s International Champions Cup campaign with a superb 3-2 comeback win against Atletico Madrid in North Carolina.
Despite taking a first half lead through Lauren Hemp, City trailed 2-1 with 10 minutes left but staged a stunning fightback to first draw level through Janine Beckie before Tessa Wullaert struck with the last kick of the game to clinch the Third Place play-off.
And reflecting on the game and the week in general in the United States, Cushing asserted there were numerous positives to take away.
“We knew it would be high level so we weren’t complacent in any way,” said the City manager

“We were disappointed to go behind but the team showed huge resilience and desire.
“The reason we wanted to be here us that the teams are incredibly difficult to play against and the weather is really hot so its great preparation for that first game of the season.
“I’m really pleased with all the squad they have performed really well.”
