Pep Guardiola has detailed the multitude of positions he feels Joao Cancelo can be utilised in, which includes a more advanced attacking role.
The Portugal right-back is comfortable playing on both sides of the pitch, but his versatility does not end there.
While the City boss admitted he expects the 25-year-old to compete with Kyle Walker for his preferred position, he did not rule out deploying Cancelo further forward.
“Normally he is used on the right,” said Guardiola ahead of Sunday’s trip to Bournemouth.
“He can play on the left. He played there at Juventus many times. He can play on both sides and as a winger, too.
“He started as a winger in the younger age groups, so he can play in several positions. We think about him as a full-back because Kyle Walker cannot play every three days. It’s impossible.”
Guardiola also revealed that Cancelo is ready to make his debut against Bournemouth, while Oleksandr Zinchenko is fit enough to play, though John Stones is ruled out with injury.
