Scott Carson hopes Manchester City’s talented young squad can reap the benefit of his 16 years of experience in professional football.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper arrives on a season-long loan from Derby County to provide support to Ederson and Claudio Bravo and is looking to make a valuable contribution to his team-mate’s development at the City Football Academy.
“I’m delighted to be here,” he said upon completing his switch.
“It was a bit of a shock when I first found out and it’s still a bit of a shock now.
“Hopefully I can be a role model. I’m 33 now and I’d like to think I’ve matured a lot over the last few years and I do understand what it’s like to be a young lad in a big club.
“Hopefully my experience can help and with the younger goalkeepers. If I can help them hopefully it will be a successful season and the club in that aspect.”
Carson, who expressed surprise at the move, also discussed how goalkeeping has developed during his career and paid tribute to the impact of both Ederson and Bravo.
