The defending Premier League champions have won three of our last eight games and are currently 14 points adrift of table-toppers Liverpool.

Guardiola thinks it is normal for all teams, no matter how successful they have been, to suffer tough spells and says the whole Club will learn from this period.

“I cannot forget what his team has done,” he said. “But sometimes in the process, there are seasons where you always struggle more than others. That’s normal.

“I said many times that this is going to help us in the future. I would have preferred to be closer to Liverpool, but that is the reality.

“I think it’s going to help the whole organisation to say, after four titles in one season, maybe we believe we are something we are not.

“The reality of sport is you have to go again and again.”
