The Catalan sees the Stockport-born Academy graduate as Silva’s natural successor and feels he has all the tools to emulate the brilliant Spaniard.
“That is our wish,” he said ahead of our final Champions League group stage game against Dinamo Zagreb.
“David is a legend. The amount of games and titles [he has]. We believe he [Phil] can do it.”
With City assured of a place in the last 16, Guardiola admitted he is considering making changes in Croatia and it prompted several questions on Foden, who could well come into the side.
He has areas he needs to improve, his manager feels, but is progressing at the rate Pep and his coaching staff expect.
“In some departments he can improve,” added the 48-year-old.
“Without the ball. Because he is so young, sometimes he has to think more about decision making, especially without the ball.
“It’s normal for his age. His development is perfect. We are satisfied with what he’s doing when he trains and when he plays.”
