Manchester City goalkeeper Karen Bardsley says the Continental Cup holds a special place in the squad’s hearts.
The keeper emerged as City’s hero in Saturday’s Bramall Lane final as the Blues secured a dramatic penalty shoot-out win to lift the Continental Cup 4-2 on penalties against Arsenal after normal and extra time had finished goalless.
Bardsley saved two crucial spot-kicks and said the competition carried extra-special significance for City.
“This trophy has a special place in our hearts we won it in our first season together as a team,” said the England keeper.

“We’ve always been fond of it and this is a special step in the right direction.”
Manager Nick Cushing meanwhile was keen to pay tribute to the squad’s winning mentality.
Cushing said: “I’m proud of the players. The mentality they showed during the penalty shoot-out shows they are true winners.”
