Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says the Club’s scouting department are actively looking for new players ahead of next season.

One area of pressing concern is defensive midfield where Fernandinho, who, at 33, has already played 31 times in all competitions this season.

Asked if the Club were searching for a midfielder, Guardiola said: “Scouts are always looking for players in different position we never know what is going to happen but today is not easy to find and buy the player.

“We’re trying to help Fernandinho in that position.”

And asked whether the Brazilian could play as a centre-half as his career goes on, Guardiola added: “I think he plays in that position, he’s fast strong in the air, vision for the pass inside and switch of play is excellent.

“He’s intelligent, he understands everything and i think he can do it. We need a guy who understands that stuff.”
