The City boss says he cannot see the Reds slipping up very often between now and the end of the campaign – and that means the Blues will need to keep winning in order to have a chance of retaining the title.

“I don’t see Liverpool dropping many points. They are going to demand us to be there.

“Does playing before them make a difference? I don’t know what they think - I’m not in Liverpool’s locker room -and I don’t think Klopp would invite me!

“We need to let them feel that we are there. Play a game 1, 4, 7 points in front is different.”

The Blues’ boss also believes only a handful of teams play their natural game against City, with many adopting preventative tactics rather than playing a more expansive style
