“I am delighted, happy and grateful that Bernardo still has the desire to be with us.

“In the end, we judge our players on what they do on the pitch and he was one of the most - maybe the most – effective this season.

“He is a lovely guy, people appreciate him and not just for his skills, for the way he behaves.

“I am grateful, delighted. When players of his quality want to stay, it’s an honour for us.

“I am grateful he agreed a new contract - it means he wants to stay, and I like it.

Asked if any more deals may be in the offing for key members of the squad, Pep added: “I don’t have any new info about that. Txiki is in Lyon for Champions League draw, so I don’t know at this stage.”
