Raheem Sterling and Nikita Parris each picked up the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award last night at the Landmark in London.
Parris has been integral throughout City Womens’ domestic double and currently unbeaten league season, averaging a goal per game so far in the Women’s Super League with one game to play.
Blues winger Sterling’s on-field influence is also unquestioned as we sit on the cusp of successive Premier Leagues, but he has also received plaudits for his active role in fighting racism in football.
And while he remains fully focused on this weekend’s title tilt, Sterling was nonetheless delighted with the individual accolade.
He said: “It’s a massive achievement to win an award like this, especially with the players in the past that have won it.”

Parris was also pleased with the individual recognition but stressed the importance of her fellow Blues in helping her reach the heights of this season.
“It feels great, I feel like I’ve had a great season, but I’d like to thank all of my teammates because they’ve been with me every step of the way,” she admitted.
