Players must be aware a drop in performance will result in them losing their place in the starting XI, Pep Guardiola has declared.
The Manchester City boss admitted the current crop of players are one of the most competitive groups he has managed, but feels it is imperative that every member of the squad knows they must perform if they’re to keep their spot.
“Every player has to feel, ‘I play good or I don’t play,” said Guardiola.
“If not I’m in trouble, in problems. [They must] think, why didn’t I make more tackles, the players have to feel that.”
Guardiola also discussed Vincent Kompany’s future, contract talks with Leroy Sane and the likelihood of completing the quadruple as he prepares his side to face Watford in the FA Cup final.
